അങ്ങനെ അദ്ദേഹം സൂര്യാസ്തമനസ്ഥാനത്തെത്തിയപ്പോള് അത് ചെളിവെള്ളമുള്ള ഒരു ജലാശയത്തില് മറഞ്ഞ് പോകുന്നതായി അദ്ദേഹം കണ്ടു. അതിന്റെ അടുത്ത് ഒരു ജനവിഭാഗത്തെയും അദ്ദേഹം കണ്ടെത്തി.(അദ്ദേഹത്തോട്) നാം പറഞ്ഞു: ഹേ, ദുല്ഖര്നൈന്, ഒന്നുകില് നിനക്ക് ഇവരെ ശിക്ഷിക്കാം. അല്ലെങ്കില് നിനക്ക് അവരില് നന്മയുണ്ടാക്കാം.(86)
(86) حَتَّىٰ إِذَا بَلَغَ مَغْرِبَ الشَّمْسِ وَجَدَهَا تَغْرُبُ فِي عَيْنٍ حَمِئَةٍ وَوَجَدَ عِنْدَهَا قَوْمًا ۗ قُلْنَا يَا ذَا الْقَرْنَيْنِ إِمَّا أَنْ تُعَذِّبَ وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَتَّخِذَ فِيهِمْ حُسْنًا
Until, when he reached the setting place of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of black muddy (or hot) water. And he found near it a people. We (Allah) said (by inspiration): "O Dhul-Qarnain! Either you punish them, or treat them with kindness."(86)
